Lochlea's red wine cask release is an annual release inspired by the finishing of their mature spirit in red wine casks. Each year will bring a different expression of red wine, inspired by the casks they believe best compliment their style. For the first release they have taken whisky matured in 1st-fill Bourbon barrels, then finished in carefully selected Grenache casks.
The result is a bright, fruit-forward whisky bursting with summer berries, strawberry shortcake, and sweet vanilla, finishing with spiced biscuits and rich oak. This first edition sets the tone for a vibrant and evolving series of red wine cask finishes. Lochlea’s Red Wine Cask expressions sit alongside the new Single Estate core range of single malts — a permanent collection that reflects a commitment to quality, provenance, and character. Each expression is crafted from their Own Barley, distilled and matured entirely on-site in the heart of Ayrshire, Scotland.
